‘Working together for a brighter future’

Acorns and Conkers

We are Acorns and Conkers Classes!

The staff who support the children's learning in nursery are:
Mrs Palmer, Mrs Pirie, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Sproson.

Miss Thomas and Mrs Hawthorne come to help us once a week and Mrs Miah is our  lunchtime support.

Inside our classroom...

We work hard every day to create an enjoyable learning environment where we are

encouraged to achieveour best and work together for a brighter future!

Phonics:

Developing reading is key to unlocking learning and phonics is the prime approach to learning to read. In Nursery, children explore the skills that are needed before learning to read. The children will access small group activities in  Phase 1 phonics which is made up of seven areas.   We follow the Little Wandles phonics scheme from Autumn 2 which includes Rhythm and Rhyme, Environmental Sounds, Instrumental Sounds, Alliteration, Voice Sounds, Body Percussion and Oral Blending and Segmenting.   words.

Maths:

Our EYFS provision will develop confidence and competence in learning and using key skills. This includes counting, sorting, matching, seeking patterns, making connections, recognising relationships and working with numbers, shapes, space and measure.

Homework:

Each child has a 'Working Together' book and each week a learning summary and a homework challenge will be added for your child to complete with you and return to school.  It might be something to make, create, investigate or experience.

Important Information:

Your child's book bag needs to come into school EVERYDAY please to ensure information reaches you.
ALL children will need appropriate clothing in their bags to make sure they are warm and happy when learning outdoors, as we have access to the outdoor area at all times it is really important that your child has an outdoor coat and wellington boots in school at all times.

Things to remember...

  • Reading is an important part of the children's development and children are required to share a book at home everyday or as often as possible - do not forget to sign their reading diary too!  These should be brought into school everyday.
  • Fitness Friday is every Friday - children should wear black tracksuit bottoms & jacket top with a plain white t-shirt.
  • Wellie Wednesday each Wednesday afternoon- outdoor activities in our forest area, warm clothing essential in cold weather.

What you need to know about the curriculum...

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework supports an integrated approach to early learning and care.  It gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children.  As well as being the core document for all professionals working in the foundation years, the EYFS framework gives parents and carers confidence that regardless of where they choose for their child's early education, they can be assured that the same statutory commitments and principles will underpin their child's learning and development experience.

Thank you for your support and enthusiasm to help your child with their learning. It is appreciated.
