At Oakhill, we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds phonics scheme. Support for parents can be found by clicking on the Little Wandle Link below:

In Year 1 the children do a phonics screening check. This check takes place in June and they have 40 real and pseudo (not real) words to read. Usually the pass mark is around 32 although this could change each year. All children in England are taught to read and write through phonics.

We have prepared some examples of real and pseudo words for your child to read. We have also added some key information that also relates to the screening check. When your child reads the words during the screening check they cannot receive any help. In the examples we have prepared you the real words are in a plain box and any pseudo words have an alien next to them. If you have any other questions then please feel free to contact a member of staff.
