To start off the new school year, we will be focusing on the Julia Donaldson book Superworm. Later in the term, we will focusing our writing on a Christmas clip 'The Longest Journey.' We will be writing character profiles, setting descriptions, and innovating the story. We will also be writing evocative Winter poems, focusing on using our senses.
In the Spring term we will be focusing our writing on the story 'The Bog Baby.' We will be innovating the story and creating our own characters. We will be looking at the setting of the story and using our senses to describe it.
Our Summer term will focus on stories relating to the natural world. We will be looking at some engaging stories, such as The Crow's Tale, and Wild.
We will begin this year with a heavy focus on place value and children developing their understanding of number. We will then look to carry in Maths following our Oakhill planning document which teaches the four main areas in Maths. These are Number and Place Value, Geometry, Measure and Statistics. Where possible, links have been made across the Maths curriculum to provide children with as many opportunities as possible to apply their knowledge and understanding.
Oakhill Alumno Curriculum
We will look at map work and developing map reading skills, the city of London and comparing it to our local area, we will compare urban and rural areas and where the UK is in relation to the rest of the world.
Our focus in History will be looking at the life of people in Stone Age Britain, the life of significant people like Mary Seacole, Florence Nightingale and Queen Victoria. We will look at our local area focusing on how the area has changed, Beswick pottery, Phil Taylor, the explorer Levison Wood and the rivalry between Stoke City and Port Vale.
This year in Science we will be looking at rocks, animals and then living things in our garden.
We will look at levers and how the position of a fulcrum affects a lever. We shall also build a Stone Henge model.
In art we will look at Stone Age art and explore different techniques linked to the cave art. We will also complete artwork based around the themes of growing in the garden and Florence Nightingale.
